VELUX Support - All rigid roller shutters
What to do if my external shutter is blocked by frost or snow?
VELUX roller shutters, like all outdoor equipment, are naturally subject to weather conditions. Their operation may therefore be temporarily affected by frost.
When frost occurs after a wet period (rain, fog, high humidity, or prolonged ventilation of the room), condensation may form on the shutter guides or slats. This water, when frozen, can immobilize the shutter panzer and temporarily prevent any operation.
This phenomenon is comparable to what you might observe on an exterior gate frozen solid, or windshield wipers stuck to a vehicle's windshield.
Our products are designed with an integrated safety system that automatically locks the mechanism in the event of unusual resistance, thus preventing any damage.
Our recommendations for shutters blocked by frost:
Never force the shutter to open or close.
If you need to operate it quickly, here are a few simple steps:
- Open the window slightly to allow the interior heat to warm the shutter and melt the frost.
- Gently shake the shutter while opening the window to try to loosen the frozen slats or break the thin layer of ice.
However, if the frost is stuck on a rolled-up shutter (as in the case of a shutter raised during rain, then frozen overnight), it is necessary to wait until the frost has melted.
Our recommendations for awnings or soft shutters blocked by frost:
Never force the shutter to open or close.
