If you've got a VELUX roof window that's seen better days, we've got good news. The Irish government has expanded the SEAI grant scheme to include roof windows. Which means you could get up to €4,000 funding when you upgrade to a more energy-efficient model.

• Home built and occupied before 2011
• Good levels of attic and wall insulation required
• Installed by an SEAI-registered contractor
The SEAI window grant is a flat amount per property type - it’s not calculated per window. So, you can apply for funding, even if you’re only planning on replacing your roof windows.
For a detached home, that's €4,000 back in your pocket. An attractive amount for a job that could also make your home warmer, quieter and more comfortable.

On the technical side, VELUX standard double-glazed roof windows have a U-value of 1.3 W/m²K – this is already better than the 1.4 required by SEAI.

No, you do not need to provide proof of age, or performance, for your existing roof windows. The SEAI requirement is that your home was built before 2011.
If your roof windows are 20+ years old, the time may be right for an upgrade.
No - the grant is only available for properties that were built and occupied before 2011. Extensions added after 1 January 2011 are also excluded, even if the main area of the house qualifies.
The SEAI window grant amounts depend on your property type:
The replacement roof window must achieve a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better (i.e. 1.4 or lower). A lower U-value means better insulation performance.
Modern VELUX roof windows meet or exceed this standard: our standard double-glazing (70) has a U-value of 1.3 W/m²K.
If you’d like to make the most of your upgrade, you can improve this even more by choosing a triple-glazed VELUX roof window, for boosted insulation and noise-proofing.
