VELUX Support - Roof windows, roof balcony and roof terrace

What shall I do when my manual operated window (incl. roof balcony or roof terrace) will not stay open?

For a centre-pivot window:

Centre-pivot windows will naturally rest in horizontal position parallel to the floor. This means that on shallow roof pitches, it appears that the window is not staying open, as the gap between the frame and the sash is reduced.
When operating the window, pull the sash down to the horizontal position, and release to allow it to sit in this position. Do not rotate the sash past horizontal and release, as the momentum of the sash swinging back may allow the window to close over further.
VELUX can offer a set of high friction springs, which can be inserted into the centre-pivot hinge. This increase the friction on the rotation of the sash, and therefore allows the window to stay open further. For more information, please contact VELUX Customer Service by clicking below.
It is also an option to upgrade your window to be electrically operated. For more information, please click here.

For a top-hung window:

Top-hung windows are spring assisted when opening, which helps you to effortlessly lift the sash fully open. If the sash drops closed, or is extremely heavy to lift, the springs may need adjusted or engaged
To engage the springs, please watch this animation.
To adjust the springs, please watch this video.
The standard springs provided with the top-hung window is suitable for roof pitches between 15-55°. In roof pitches between 55-75°, special springs with less tension will be required for smooth opening and closing of the window.
