UK social housing and new build programmes are under pressure to deliver healthier homes, where damp, mould, and indoor air quality are real concerns, and where upper floors can otherwise become dark, compromised spaces.
VELUX dormer solutions help you turn that roof volume into bright, usable living area, supporting comfortable room proportions and enabling natural ventilation through openable roof windows.
Consisting of four or six roof windows in total, divided into two horizontal rows, the VELUX dormer brings a dramatic increase in natural daylight and an amazing feeling of openness. This innovative solution adds up to 3 times more daylight compared to traditional dormers with the same glazing area.
For customers looking for a dormer solution with 1, 2, or 3 roof windows alongside each other, our mini dormer is the ideal choice. It enhances the sense of space and admits up to 2.5 times more daylight than traditional solutions with a similar glazing area.
At Mungo Park Way (Wallasey, Wirral), Starship, Onward, and VELUX delivered 13 "Rent to Buy" homes and used the "Room in the roof" approach to bring daylight and ventilation into the upper-floor spaces. The dormer solution was selected for daylight performance and for integration into a panelised construction approach.
