Are you working in the field of architecture and are interested in participating in the VELUX Conservation Project Competition?

VELUX are looking for someone who can impress our judges with:

  • Impeccable aesthetics
  • Sustainable design principles that reflect an exceptional building envelope
  • Successful VELUX Heritage conservation roof window integration

The competition is open to all architects in the Republic of Ireland. You have between September 1st - December 1st 2023 to register for the chance to WIN €8,500 and a trip for two to Copenhagen hosted by VELUX valued up to €3,000.

The city of Copenhagen has been officially designated as the World Capital of Architecture for 2023 by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects.

Winner will receive media coverage in RIBA Journal, Architects' Journal and the VELUX website.

Terms and conditions

Competition timeline

Installation deadline (March 31st, 2024)
Your project must have at least one VELUX Heritage conservation roof window installed by 31st March 2024 for you to be considered for the competition.

Judging and site visits (April 2024)
In April, a panel of judges will evaluate your submission and select the top three projects based on architectural merit, innovation, successful integration of the windows, sustainable methodology and retrofit representation. The finalists will then receive a site visit where the execution and impact of the design will be assessed.

Winner announcement (May 2024)
The winner of the VELUX Conservation Project Competition will be announced in May. They will receive a prize of €8,500 in recognition of their exceptional craftsmanship, sensitivity to heritage preservation, sustainable design principles and daylight and retrofit representation. In addition to the cash prize, the winner will win a trip for two to Copenhagen, Denmark hosted by VELUX valued up to €3,000.

Finalists case study filming (Summer 2024)
Following the site visits and winner announcement, the three projects may become part of a case study showing the most unique perspectives. Architect testimonials will be included to provide insights into the features and practicalities of using these windows in heritage conservation projects. The case study will also document the transformative effect of incorporating VELUX Heritage conservation roof windows and its benefits.
