VELUX have created two RIAI approved CPD presentations designed to be run consecutively, for example a week apart.
1. The importance of daylight in design
We spend up to 90% of our time indoors; this presentation highlights the benefits of natural daylight within buildings to our heath and well-being. It also examines our desire to have a view of the outside world and the added benefits of energy savings with the use of daylight.
The presentation includes how to optimise and measure daylight, a short daylight film and the VELUX daylight visualiser tool with case studies. The presentation also sets the scene for the following CPD seminar.
2. Optimising energy in design
Buildings currently account for 40% of the total energy consumption. With the rise in energy costs and emphasis on reducing carbon dioxide emissions, designing energy efficient buildings is high on the designer's agenda.
This presentation looks at the importance of designing with energy efficiency in mind, especially in light of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), along with creating a healthy and comfortable enviroment.
Using the recently built VELUX concept houses Atika and SOLTAG this presentation demonstrates the concept of sustainable living.
The presentation also considers areas such as choice of building materials, construction methods, orientation, passive solar gain, solar thermal hot water, reducing the need for electric lighting during the day, ventilation, indoor comfort and home automation.
