We were delighted to be a Sponsorship Partner of the Flat Roofing category at the 23rd IFD World Championships for Young Roofers that took place in Belfast from 17-19th November 2010. This sponsorship is an extension of our work with training colleges, universities and skills development at the VELUX Academies, which aims to further develop the expertise and skills across every aspect of the building supply chain.
We also sponsored the RBM GB Team - eventual runners-up after being narrowly beaten by the Swiss team. The Team consisted of a Northern England dream-team: Yorkshire lad, Mark McAvoy (25) who works for Watershed Roofing Ltd, and Neil Armstrong (23) from Wigan, of Fulwood Roofing Services Ltd.
The two British roofers were happy with their efforts and paid tribute to the support they received. Mark McAvoy said: “Neil and I are delighted with our second place finish. We were making great time on Wednesday and rallied together to finish on a high on Thursday. We have already received great feedback from our friends, family and most importantly our employers. There’s no doubt the training and support provided by VELUX helped us achieve this success and the support throughout the competition really helped motivate us.”
